Organic Farming to Enrich Meals for Children at

Dak Rong Primary Boarding School

Project update March 2018: Work on pigsty is completed!

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Dak Rong Primary Boarding School Project,

The work on pigsty at TH Dakrong school is finally completed. It will help to provide more nutrition to the children at school, and help our school save money (they will no longer need to buy expensive meat from the market). In a few months, when the pigs reach 70 to 80 kg, the children at school will have 120 grams of meat / week.

In the near future, when the teachers know better how to manage the pigsty, we hope that you will help support Dakrong School to increase the number of pigs to further improve the children's meals.

Thank you so much for all your support!

Project update January 2018: Work on pigsty to complete soon

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Dak Rong Primary Boarding School Project,

After completion of the water well in October 2017 we struggled a little bit with fundraising for the pigsty work. It was also the time when Vietnam was severely hit by several typhoons in a sequence of few weeks.

Logically, our community focused their support towards the devastated regions. We, as individuals, also made some small contribution to help the people affected by those storms.

But soon after that we unexpectedly received an extremely generous gesture from two of our dearest Friends and Supporters: Stephen and Luda Coupe. They donated 106 mil. VND (!!!) to the pigsty work and that news soon reached our School. Headmaster Tuan bursted out in joy and wasted no time to start with the work that he so long has dreamed of...please see the photos below for the latest status of pigsty work.

2018 has started well for us! A BIG "Thank You" to our Friends and Supporters - especially to Stephen and Luda!

Purpose: To provide material and emotional support to each child.
How: Sponsor a child and become his/her family member.

  • We hope to receive an amount of 200.000VND/month per child until he/she graduates from school. You can choose to terminate your sponsorship at any time you want. The money will be managed by our Sisters and used for stationery, school supplies, personal items, as well as for any of the children’s hobbies, and nutritious food and likings.

  • You will be these children’s FAMILY MEMBER and vice versa. These children live away from their family (some don’t even have a family) and understand that the Sisters cannot attend to their daily physical or emotional needs since there are only 7 Sisters who take care of 200+ children. Hence, they need and desire the love of a true family member – who can be YOU. You will be their role model so they can be motivated to strive for a better future, like the life that you have. You can gradually be acquainted and get to know these children and affirm your love and care for them via phone or hand-written letters. The Sisters and our team strongly believe that your relationship with these children can blossom despite the geographical barrier.

These children are incredibly loveable, affectionate, and friendly. With the innocence of their ethnic background, they will surely offer you the purest and dearest sentiment and relationship. Be emotionally prepared for the most naïve questions like “The Sisters allow me to return to my village, can you come and visit my village with me??" (although there’s little to do at the village), or “Sis, are there any poor people in Saigon?” … not to mention countless tears.

What’s better than having a younger brother or a younger sister with whom you can share everything?! Please inbox us for detailed information about the program and you will find a LITTLE FAMILY MEMBER for you! Thank you very much!

Project update October 2017: Water well completed

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Dak Rong Primary Boarding School Project,

We are so happy to inform you that with your generous contribution we have been able to complete the first part of our project. The work on water well drilling has completed completed recently and our children at Dak Rong School can enjoy fresh and clean water directly from the water basin behind their accommodation.

With this water well now in operations, the children can have regular water supply even during the dry seasons.

Furthermore, this water supply can also be used for farming when we complete the Organic Farm project part as next.

We look forward to sharing more exciting news with you soon!

Project summary

Currently, we are working together with Dak Rong Primary Boarding School in Gia Lai Province to improve the daily meals cooked for their pupils. The meals lack every type of nutrition - leaving us with the question how the kids will be able to grow and learn with an empty stomach every day.

  • Aim

    • Construct greenhouse for organic farming

    • Drill water well for usage in dry season

    • Build pigsty to raise pigs for meat

  • Advising partner: WeFresh Organic Farm

  • Target Impact:

    • Organic farming: Additional 120 gr of vegetable and 2 eggs for each child / week, over many years

    • Pig raising: Additional 150 gram of meat for each child / week, with remaining meat for sell and self-fund next cycles of baby pigs again and again

To raise money for the investment required for this project, we are reaching out to friends and family members, and fundraising organizing events.

Now we need your support to make this project happen. You could help us in two ways: please share The Dak Rong Primary Boarding School Project on your Facebook wall, and make a donation. We appreciate every support - thank you very much!
